Frequently asked questions
- 01Absolutely. We film weddings throughout Melbourne CBD and the surrounding suburbs, capturing celebrations in some of the city’s most iconic venues. We’ve filmed at beautiful Melbourne locations such as the State Library of Victoria, Leonda by the Yarra, and Crown Towers, and our local experience helps us capture the unique atmosphere of each venue — from elegant city weddings to relaxed celebrations. We’re also close to some of Victoria’s most popular regional wedding destinations, including the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, and Gippsland, and we love travelling to these areas to capture stunning vineyard, coastal, and countryside weddings. If you’re planning a wedding in Melbourne CBD, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, or Gippsland, we’d love to be part of your day and capture your story.
- 02Yes, MJ Productions Co regularly films at Yarra Valley venues like Stones of the Yarra Valley, Zonzo Estate, and Immerse Winery. We know the best lighting times, vineyard angles, and scenic spots to create cinematic wedding films that reflect the region’s natural beauty. Mostly importantly, as we are located close to Yarra Valley, there is no travel fee to Yarra Valley.
- 03Definitely! The Mornington Peninsula’s coastal venues — including The Epicurean Red Hill and Port Phillip Estate — are some of our favourites. The sea breeze, vineyards, and golden light offer a dreamy cinematic atmosphere for your wedding video.
- 04Melbourne weddings tend to be modern and urban, filled with architecture and city lights, while Yarra Valley weddings are surrounded by vineyards and nature, and Mornington Peninsula weddings often feature coastal views. MJ Productions Co tailors the filming style to highlight your chosen location’s unique charm.

- 08Yes — we love travelling to film weddings across regional Victoria. Many of the most beautiful and unique weddings take place outside Melbourne, and we’re always excited to capture those celebrations. We’ve filmed weddings at a range of regional locations including the Great Ocean Road, Daylesford, Bendigo, Shepparton, Myrtleford, Mansfield, Mt Hotham, Dargo, and East Gippsland. If you’re planning a regional wedding anywhere in Victoria, we’d be thrilled to be part of it. For regional weddings, additional travel costs may apply. This usually includes travel, meals, and accommodation so we can arrive early, stay well-rested, and take the best possible care while filming your wedding day. For most regional locations, we require two nights of accommodation to ensure we can arrive on time and avoid any early-morning travel risks on your wedding day.
- 09To confirm your date, a deposit (50% of the accepted quote) is to be paid and a signed contract. The remainder is due on the Wedding day. All bookings are taken care of electronically. All prices are quoted in AUD including GST.

- 13We recommend booking your wedding videographer 8–12 months before your wedding date. Popular dates—especially spring and autumn weekends—can book out quickly, so securing your videographer early helps ensure availability. Many couples book their videographer soon after confirming their venue, as these are usually the first two suppliers to be secured. That said, if your wedding is sooner, feel free to reach out. If your date is still available, we would be more than happy to be part of your day and capture your story.
- 14We focus on making you feel comfortable, not directed. Our calm presence, storytelling experience, and cinematic editing ensure your wedding film feels genuine, elegant, and uniquely yours. We are alway well presented and not being intrusive.
- 15Yes! We use professional microphones and backup recorders to capture vows, speeches, and music clearly, ensuring every emotional word and laugh is perfectly preserved. All our audio recorders are using 32bit floating recording setting to ensure a high quality audio recording.

- 17I work on my own and with the second shooter depending on the details and size of the wedding. Generally, as a rule for weddings with a guest count over 150 guests or coverage over 10 hrs, I would recommend a second shooter, for less than, I feel confident filming on my own. But I will be able to give you my recommendation given your exact plans for your wedding. For elopements and small weddings in Melbourne, I work on my own.
- 18Full HD is pretty good for web browsing and viewing on your smart phone. If you wish to future proof or play it on a large-screen TV, 4K would be the best option. Please contact us if you wish to upgrade to 4K if it's not default in part of the packages.
- 19Of course, lots of it :) I always use 2x memory cards for all my main cameras and have backup copies of your wedding videos for up to 24 months. We usually use 3-4 cameras for each wedding.
- 20Yes, our drone pilot and drones are CASA registered for commercial filming. However, the drone filming is restricted by the weather and the location approval. In the location close to airport or restricted area, drone is generally not allowed.
- 21We are more than capable if you wish to film corporate videos, such as interviews, event highlights, vox pops, client branding videos and social clips. We have worked for many marketing agencies, companies and Universities. However, for TV commercials and more, I suggest you contact a video production company.
- 22Yes, we have public liability insurance for up to 2 million dollars. All our crew members have work with children check. I have also done first aid training for emergency situations.
- 23Late afternoon sun near the Marriage Registry at Old Treasury Building is best for outdoor portraits - generally in the final two hours before sunset. This is my favourite time of day to shoot, so I prefer an afternoon Registry ceremony so we can make the most of the late afternoon for portraits afterwards.
- 24You can find it on our privacy policy page.
- 25A full documentary-style wedding film is a longer edit that tells the complete story of your wedding day. It typically includes key moments such as getting ready, the ceremony, speeches, and other important parts of the celebration, edited together in a natural, storytelling style so you can relive the day as it happened. This style of film is included in The Polished and The Full Journey packages. If you’re mainly looking for a shorter cinematic highlight of your wedding day, our packages also include highlight films that capture the most emotional and memorable moments in a beautifully edited short film. If you’re unsure which package is the best fit for your wedding, feel free to reach out — we’re always happy to help guide you.
- 26Yes, we bring portable lighting equipment to every wedding we film. This allows us to gently brighten areas if the venue becomes too dark, especially during the reception, speeches, or first dance. Our lighting is designed to be subtle and unobtrusive, helping the scene look natural while ensuring everything is captured clearly on camera. This not only improves video quality but also helps create a more cinematic and polished look for your wedding film. Most of the time the lighting blends naturally with the venue’s existing lighting, simply enhancing the atmosphere so your special moments can be filmed beautifully.
